AD-AS AND OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY COMPLETE TWO-YEAR ERGONOMIC WORKSTATION STUDY

AD-AS, Boise, Idaho and Ohio State University's Institute for Ergonomics completed a two-year work simulation ergonomic study. The study quantified participants' fatigue and discomfort while performing physical work using height-adjustable and non-adjustable workstations.

Infrared spectroscopy and electromyography were used as objective measures of muscle fatigue, and discomfort surveys were used as subjective measures. When participants decided to make "many" adjustments to their workstation, they had less fatigue after the work was complete than when no adjustments could be made.

This outcome shows that comfortable work environments can reduce discomfort, fatigue and cumulative trauma.
